Pod okriljem noći izraelski su se specijalci iz helikoptera spustili na turski putnički brod Mavi Marmara i počeli pucati čim su im noge dotakle pod. Otvorili su vatru izravno u skupinu civila koji su spavali.
Na tom je brodu, prema za sad potvrđenim informacijama ubijeno 2, a ranjeno 31 osoba.
Što se dogodilo na preostalih 5 brodova još nije poznato. Izrael tvrdi da izraelske snage preuzimaju brodove.
Koalicija nevladinih udruga koju čine Pokret za slobodnu Gazu (FG), Europska kampanja za okončanje opsade Gaze (ECESG), Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH), Globalna mirovna organizacija Perdana, Brod za Gazu Grčka, Brod za Gazu Švedska i Međunarodni odbor za ukidanje opsade Gaze poziva međunarodnu zajednicu da od izraela zatraži prekid ovog brutalnog napada na civile koji su došli kako bi isporučili prijeko potrebnu humanitarnu pomoć Palestincima zarobljenima u Gazi i da dozvoli brodovima da nastave svoj put u Gazu.
Napad se dogodio u međunarodnim vodama, 75 milja od izraelske obale i predstavlja izravno kršenje međunarodnog prava.
Neki izvori sada navode da je ubijeno 19 međunarodnih civila.
Organiziraju se prosvjedi protiv izraelske blokade Gaze i napada na međunarodne humanitarne brodove diljem svijeta.

Izrael tvrdi da su aktivisti jednog naoružanog izraelskog vojnika napali metalnim šipkama kad se iz helikoptera spustio na njihov civilni brod u međunarodnim vodama, pa da je zbog toga došlo do otvaranja vatre i ubijanja i ranjavanja nenaoružanih civila. Aktivisti optužuju Izrael da laže i da su vojnici počeli pucati bez provokacije.

We protest in the strongest terms the use of force by the Israeli Defense Forces against the civilians from many countries who want to transport humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza, and among whom there are women and children, which, according to the initial information available, resulted in the death of 2 persons and injury of more than 30 people. Israel has once again clearly demonstrated that it does not value human lives and peaceful initiatives through targeting innocent civilians. We strongly condemn these inhuman acts of Israel. This grave incident which took place in high seas in gross violation of international law might cause irreversible consequences in our relations.

We insist on severance of diplomatic ties with Israel, trials for war crimes and the International protection of the civilians of Gaza. We call on you to join the growing international boycott, divestment and sanction campaign of a country proving again to be so violent and yet so unchallenged. Join the growing critical mass around the world with a commitment to the day when Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as any other people, when the siege is lifted, the occupation is over and the 6 million Palestinian refugees are finally granted justice.
